Darkest Before Dawn
A KGI Novel #10
By: Maya Banks
Releasing October 27, 2015
Penguin Publishing Group

The Kelly Group International (KGI): A super-elite, top secret, family-run business.
Qualifications: High intelligence, rock-hard body, military background.
Mission: Hostage/kidnap victim recovery. Intelligence gathering. Handling jobs the U.S. government can’t...

The enigmatic Hancock has been both opponent and ally to the KGI teams for as long as they've known him. Always working a deep game, Hancock's true allegiance has never been apparent, but one thing is for certain—he never lets anything get in the way of duty.

But now, his absolute belief in the primacy of his ultimate goal is challenged by a captive he's been ordered to guard, no matter how much she suffers in her prison. She's the only woman who's ever managed to penetrate the rigid walls surrounding his icy heart, but will he allow his perplexing feelings for the beautiful victim to destroy a mission he's spent years working to complete or will he be forced to sacrifice her for “the greater good.”

I am so very excited to be getting back into another Maya Banks books. This is a KGI book and I will be 100% honest in saying I haven’t read one of these in a really long time, but I am eager to get into this one.
From the beginning of this book you are hit with a question that is the key for the whole book….Should one person be sacrificed to save thousands? And that’s where it comes to Guy Hancock, team leader for Titan; who, with his team is deep undercover, trying to take down the evil criminal Maksimov, but now he has to enter a deal with the devil, he has to save and hand over a American aid worker, who is the only survivor of a terrorist attack, so she can be used as a political pawn, but hey, it’s just one women! It is for the greater good after all.
Honor Cambridge is many things, daughter, sister, aunt, but most importantly she is a survivor. She survived an attack at the aid station and managed to survive for days, camouflaged as a local woman trying to get to the border. But then she is “saved” by Hancock and his men and Honor thinks she is finally safe and going home to her family, but that is not what happened and Honor accepts that she must be sacrificed for “the greater good”.
Hancock thinks he is steel through and through, but he doesn’t realize that he would fall in love with Honor and he is not allowing her to be sacrificed, but he lies to her yet again and his team is betrayed and Honor is captured by Maksimov. So his team calls in the only people that could rescue Honor…The KGI…but will they get there in time and if she does, will Honor ever forgive him?
What a book! Oh my goodness! I honestly couldn’t put it down! The characters were simply perfect and the plot literally gripped me and kept me on the edge of my seat. It honestly didn’t matter that I hadn’t read a KGI book in years; Darkest Before Dawn can be read as a standalone or as part of the series!
I give 10 out of 10 to Darkest Before Dawn! Maya Banks has done it again!!
