New York Times bestselling author Jenny Colgan returns to the beloved Scottish Highland town of Kirrinfief, which readers first met in The Bookshop on the Shore, and adds a dash of London’s bustling urban landscape.

Lissa is a nurse in a gritty, hectic London neighborhood. Always terribly competent and good at keeping it all together, she’s been suffering quietly with PTSD after helping to save the victim of a shocking crime. Her supervisor quietly arranges for Lissa to spend a few months doing a much less demanding job in the little town of Kirrinfeif in the Scottish Highlands, hoping that the change of scenery will help her heal. Lissa will be swapping places with Cormac, an Army veteran who’s Kirrinfeif’s easygoing nurse/paramedic/all-purpose medical man. Lissa’s never experienced small-town life, and Cormac’s never spent more than a day in a big city, but it seems like a swap that would do them both some good.

In London, the gentle Cormac is a fish out of the water; in Kirrinfief, the dynamic Lissa finds it hard to adjust to the quiet. But these two strangers are now in constant contact, taking over each other’s patients, endlessly emailing about anything and everything. Lissa and Cormac discover a new depth of feeling…for their profession and for each other.

But what will happen when Lissa and Cormac finally meet…?

500 Miles From You by Jenny Colgan starts off in absolute tragedy, when District Nurse Lissa Westcott witnesses an accident of someone she knows, in a senseless attack in her South London District. After receiving a written warning for bruising the ego of the Accident and Emergency (ER) Doctor, the HR director suggests that she does a short-term job exchange in Scotland, to give herself a chance to grieve and get over the trauma. But when Lissa heads to Scotland she never expects that her whole life will change forever.

Lissa is not the only one that needs to escape their surroundings Cormac MacPherson has never spent more than a day in a big city, is suddenly immersed in London, with all its smells, noise, and people, which is a far cry from the life he had in Kirrinfief, Scotland. But he knows its for a short time, and he keeps up with his patients through Lissa, and though she is stand-offish in the beginning, they eventually become fore to each other, but will they actually ever meet.

I have made it no secret that I love Jenny Colman books, her stories remind me of everything I miss in my home country, remind me of my early 20’s in London and sometimes, every reason why I left, and while not every book she writes flow that well with me, there is always a part that I love and enjoy, and that is what has happened with 500 miles from you. I really enjoyed Lissa and Cormac’s characters and struggled a lot with the secondary characters and how they fit into the story. But overall 500 miles from you comes off a little dated, is an enjoyable read

I give 500 Miles from you 4 stars
